Major Miners by Yggdrasil falls into this category, expressing its base theme to perfection. Once you load the game up, you’ll see the mine that you’re working in, with a rail track for the mining cart to roll down when it is filled with gold. The underground rocks and stones can be seen in the background too, which are ready to be chipped away at.

Gameplay and features

This creates a fantastic scene in Major Miners, while the slot’s overall layout makes it simple to play. All the relevant buttons you need run down the right-hand side of the reels. This makes it easy to change your wager, use autoplay, and so on. To add to the general appeal of the slot, there is a compelling soundtrack incorporated.

I’m always impressed by anything released in association with Yggdrasil, which is why my expectations for Major Miners were high. These expectations were met perfectly. While the game’s base theme is very much one that a variety of developers has used, SpinOn works it into Major Miners in its own way. I found it to be an instantly charming slot, and I relished the fact it features 243 ways to win. Having played several slots with specific and often low paylines recently, this presented a nice change.

This Yggdrasil slot also played out in a very smooth way. The layout of the game is simple to navigate around and every spin I went through happened without issue. It’s a game I really do recommend based on my experience of it.

What about the bonus games?

The wild symbol adds some extra appeal to this slot. Yet there are a couple of other features to look forward to alongside. The Rockfall Modifier is one of these perks, which may trigger a spin featuring between four and five bonus symbols. If it does, it awards you the extra bonus symbols needed to activate free spins.

It takes six or more bonus symbols, represented by the sticks of dynamite, to trigger the Big Blast Bonus free spins. Where the triggering bonus symbols have landed, bronze frames will mark the positions. If bonus symbols land during the round, they also receive these frames. A bonus symbol landing within a frame will upgrade it from bronze to silver, then gold and finally diamond. 

If bonus symbols land inside a diamond frame, you receive an instant win of 20x your bet. Framed positions reveal a cash reward of up to 100x or one of the four jackpots at the end of free spins.

The scatter symbol landing on reels two, three and four will trigger the Wheel Feature of the game. Once triggered, you spin a reel and receive one of the following potential payouts:

This was solid if not slightly disappointing in my mind as anything over 96% is considered good. The game also has a high volatility, so you must ensure that you place appropriate bets. It also features a maximum potential payout of 6,853x your stake. That’s above the average, although it still remains a little lower than I would like personally. The slot documentation also states that you can choose a wager of between €1 and €50 per spin, which is quite a narrow range. I would say this would cater to a casual player, but if you’re a high roller or a penny slots enthusiast, I advise another slot. 

The Major Miners RTP rate is 94%, which is below the average, so make sure you keep this in mind when betting. RTP highlights the amount a game is likely to pay out to players in wins, though the percentage is worked out over thousands of spins. It’s also a high-volatility game to play, so you may experience several consecutive spins without wins hitting. Remember all this when betting and spinning the reels.

Major Miners has a maximum win potential of 6,000x your bet. That’s a decent level to aim for, sitting above the average of 5K. Thus, it gives you a nice target to aim for, although you do need to be realistic with your wagers and win expectations. Playing Major Miners on my mobile

I tested out Major Miners on my iPhone, and unfortunately, I prefer the desktop version. That’s not to say the version available at mobile casinos is poor, far from it. The controls are easy to access and use at the bottom half of the screen, and the screen wasn’t cluttered as can be the case with slots offering so many features. 

The reels were a little too small for my liking on mobile, however, as the shape of the machine is still geared towards landscape devices such as my desktop. You can also access the game via Android smartphones and tablets.
