When I discovered that this was a Games Global slot, I was instantly intrigued. The brand, which has acquired the software of some of the biggest names in the industry, is now renowned for its efforts with online casino slots.

Needless to say, the title and base theme also grabbed my attention. Knights of the Golden Egg is a quirky slot with some enjoyable features built into it, including its selection of exciting graphics and animations.

Stepping into the world of Arthurian legend

We all know the tale of the Knights of the Round Table, which takes place in the fictional city of Camelot. Well, you can now experience that scenario in this game from Gold Coin Studios. A vast palace can be seen in the background, which is where the knights guard the royal family. It is in the foreground that the game’s reels exist, with each reel appearing on top of a small stone wall. The visual side of the slot is appealing overall, with the graphics having a bit more of a vintage look to them.

That’s especially evident when you look at the symbols on the five reels. It makes the game look like it could have been released by Microgaming back in the early 2010s, which I love about it. There is also a quirky piece of music playing out when you load the game up. That brings a lighter edge to it, ensuring entertainment is always the focal point of the slot.

A storyline that takes you into a medieval setting

You can just imagine wandering the grounds of this ancient, medieval palace. Its vast stone walls provide fortresses for the guards and knights to stand watch at, while royal duties take place inside the main building. As you navigate your way around the palace, you come across various incarnations of characters from the theme’s story. They’re all portrayed by cockerels, though! That’s right – you get to come face-to-face with cockerels impersonating a knight, an archer and Merlin the wizard.

Gameplay and features

With this online slot, all the buttons you need are present on the right of the screen. It is through those buttons that you can alter your bet and play the game. You need to click on the button with the + and – to adjust the wager, as well as display the betting menu. Choose the bet that is suitable for your bankroll and the way you play slots. 

Reels and paylines

Knights of the Golden Egg Slot comes in the form of 5 reels making up the shape of a diamond in a 3-4-5-4-3 across combination. 

Winning combinations

After you’ve chosen a bet size, you are returned to the game screen where you can click on the large circular button halfway up the screen on the right. The five reels will spin and produce a result. You form wins in Knights of the Golden Egg by matching symbols on adjacent reels, starting from the slot’s leftmost column. At least three identical symbols need to be in a combination for it to qualify bringing the slots total to 720 ways to win.

You can also use the autoplay function in the game, with the button for this being above the spin button. Speeding up the reel spins is also an option, by clicking on the button with the lightning bolt on it.

Bonus feature

Knight symbols appear on reel 1 only and will nudge into full view across the reel if they land on a spin. Archer and wizard symbols can only appear on reel 5, and when they land, they trigger their corresponding features if the knight shows up on reel 1 with prize symbols on other reels simultaneously.

When the wizard feature triggers, the knight on reel 1 and the wizard on reel 5 become prize symbols.

The archer feature sees the knight on reel 1 turned into a prize symbol. The credit values on reels 1-4 are then summed into a single prize value. Those values start at row 2 in the Feature Grid, and you get 5 spins. On each spin, all five reels land symbols on the first row of the Feature Grid.

Land a knight on reel 1 and prize symbols on adjacent reels to activate Express Collect. This collects all values from prize symbols landing on subsequent reels left to right.

You can also trigger free spins with three scatters appearing on the central three reels. Two free spins options exist – 8 free spins with 2x multiplier on wild symbols or 1 feature spin with a guaranteed win.

You can also win the Mega, Major, Minor and Mini jackpot prizes by accessing the Jackpot Collection bonus. This occurs when the golden egg on the left of the reels randomly cracks open. Each time one of these jackpots lands, it can increase the increments on the jackpot meter, with the Mega jackpot being the exception to this. Often, developers don’t put as much effort into this part of slots as I think they should. Yes, the low maximum win and higher volatility don’t hold as much appeal in Knights of the Golden Egg. Even so, with responsible bets, you will have a fun time spinning the reels and forming wins.
