Here’s what I think of Axe Max
I liked the open feel of Axe Max, with the wide plains of America spread out in the background. If you can’t resist a cute racoon sidekick, then this game will draw you in. The quirky animal was part of the appeal for me, but it was the two bonus rounds that caught my eye.
I was happy to see that the slot stayed away from the usual Cowboys and Indians trope. Instead, it had a well-thought-out theme. I appreciated how the design gave the game character, using distinct nods to America and the original native inhabitants.
Overall, the concept comes together well, and the game’s stats certainly don’t diminish the appeal. The animations, music, and gameplay correspond to the theme, making it an immersive slot with plenty of potential.
A sneak peek of the game
I could describe feathers, axes, warriors, and totems to you, but it’s much better to show you. If you take one thing away from these images, it has to be the vibrant colour palette that makes this slot pop. From the blue of the sky to the streaks of paint on the low-paying symbols, there’s a bright and appealing tone throughout.
I captured a screenshot to show the wooden reels with five sheets of stretched canvas to hold the symbols. You’ll also spot items linked to the Native American tribe, including feathers, axes, a spear, and arrows. I liked how strongly the theme came across in every aspect.
There are separate screens for the two bonus features, which I also managed to capture. I particularly like the mysterious purple hues of the shaman’s cave round. It’s an excellent contrast to the bright sunset orange that I saw during the Free Spins.
Will you enjoy Axe Max?
Yes! If the design and theme don’t engage you, the feature sure will. I liked both aspects of this online casino slot, which made it doubly fun to play. The quirky racoon is a highlight. Somehow, it looks like it’s up to no good, but I didn’t mind. It appeared on the reels pretty often, helping to form my wins.
I love that this slot has two bonus rounds, especially since you can get more Free Spins and respins to extend the fun. However, as with most respin slots, the coin symbols on the reels got in the way of forming wins during the base game.
The main downside I experienced was the payouts from the low-value icons. When three or four lands on a payline, you get 0.20x or 0.40x your total bet. Only three Wilds or the warrior symbol got my stake back.

Betting on Axe Max for the first time
Luckily, I had the warrior to guide me through the wild American plains in this slot. Now I will do the same for you.
I browsed a list of Popiplay casinos to ensure I picked a site that features this slot. The game library was my main concern, but I also looked at reward schemes, the mobile experience, bonuses, and customer support.
When I found the casino that ticked all my boxes, I registered for an account. The process took a couple of minutes, plus a few more, to verify my email address and confirm my identity.
I checked the transaction limits for PayPal before making my deposit. I also took the opportunity to read the bonus terms to ensure I successfully triggered my offer.
I added funds, and my bonus arrived a few minutes later. Fortunately, Axe Max was eligible for bonus play, so I headed to the game library.
The A-Z listing option for the slots seemed the easiest way to find this game, and it was one of the first few listed. I launched it, and it loaded very quickly.
My first stop was the menu. I clicked the bag of cash to see the paytable. Next, I hit the question mark icon to read the rules. Just before I spun the reels, I used the plus and minus symbols to adjust my bet.
If you’re not certain of whether any casino game is worth a bet, you can always test out the free demo version before spending any real money.
Exploring the slot
My initial impression of the slot came from the bright colours. If the strong Native American theme hadn’t grabbed my attention, I would have noticed the attention to detail sooner. It didn’t matter, though, as that was something I came to appreciate more and more as I spun the reels of this slot.
Detailed depictions
The backdrop left me in no doubt about where the story was set. The canyon and open landscape with the passing tumbleweeds typified the American midwest, either as a remote part of the land or from simpler times. It did an excellent job setting the scene, and the reels built on that with the Native American symbols.
The soundtrack had a mystical and soothing edge to it that contributed to the tribal theme. I found that the electronic sound effects from a win spoiled the atmosphere slightly. However, that was easy to adjust as I turned the sounds off but left the music on.
Tribal treasures
The design did most of the hard work in establishing the theme. The top-paying symbol is the warrior, the main character of the adventure. Other symbols on the reels hint at his heritage, with axes, totems, a racoon, and a feathered headdress.
The features pick up the narrative next. The Free Spins round occurs at the end of your long journey searching for your tribe’s treasures. The sun sets as the reels reveal some wonders. However, most of the magic happens as night falls and you enter the shaman’s cave. His mystical powers that bring prizes add to the immersive storyline.
Sharp bonus features
When I saw axes on the reels, I was expecting them to come into their own during the bonus features due to the slot’s name. If I’m honest, they’re actually a red herring. They didn’t play any part in the special rounds, so I found myself looking out for other bonus symbols instead.
The first was the racoon Wild. It substitutes for all symbols except the Scatter and the coins. I saw plenty of them on the reels while I played. Not only did that help to create wins, but it paid out as much as the top symbol when I saw three, four, or five on a payline.
The red-feathered headdress is the Scatter, which pays out 1x your total bet when three land. I saw it appear on reels one, three, and five, and when all three landed, the Free Spins round began. I got 10 spins, and if the Scatters landed again during that round, it retriggered the feature.
The gold coins with the eagle’s headland on the reels all the time. However, you can’t collect their value unless you’re in the Gold Respin round. I saw it trigger when six or more gold coins landed on the reels. The coins that triggered my bonus round stayed on the reels as we travelled to the shaman’s cave.
Possible Gold Coin Values | 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 9x, 10x, 12x, 14x, 16x, 18x, and 20x your bet. |
My six respins began, and any other coins that landed remained on the reels and added to the win I collected at the end. I loved that there were coins with extra spins on them, which extended my bonus, giving me more chances to add to my total prize. I didn’t see all the available positions get filled. However, if you do, you’ll win the jackpot of 5,000x your bet.
What Is Axe Max’s RTP?
The RTP for this slot is 96.14%, an average percentage that doesn’t excite me, but it doesn’t put me off either. As for the volatility, it’s a bit too much for me. It has high volatility, meaning that patience is required. Waiting a while for wins isn’t my strong suit, which is why I tend to choose medium volatility. However, for those who want the excitement of a potential bigger win, it’ll suit you.
Would I play Axe Max again?
I would play Axe Max again. If the raccoon will be there, then I’m in! I like the theme, especially the colours and animations. The very high volatility and lower payouts aren’t to my taste, so I’m not sure I’ll add this title to my favourites list though.
My favourite parts of the game are the bonus features, including the Wild, the Free Spins, and the respins with the mystical shaman. Not only did they help me when it came to collecting wins, but they took the theme to the next level. This is why I would recommend you give Axe Max a go at any of the best online casinos.

The slot comes from a fairly new software provider called Popiplay.
Not even the shaman can help you with that secret. That’s because there isn’t one. Slots are random games that depend on luck. The only decisions in your control are whether to spin the reels, how much to bet, and how long to play.
