Midnight in Tokyo Slot
Next Game
I hit the streets of Tokyo after dark to see what awaits me. If you were expecting sake and karaoke, think again. It’s a bit of a surprise to find cats dressed in traditional Japanese costumes at the centre of this slot, but I soon warmed to the idea.
I had high expectations from Wazdan for the way the city would look in Midnight in Tokyo, and the software developer didn’t disappoint. Old Japanese temples blend with new buildings in a backdrop that glows and stuns with every detail. Once I got a glimpse of the thrilling Wilds and bonus round, I was definitely impressed.
Overall, I found it a striking game with plenty of different appealing aspects, although the maximum win of 3,000x your wager isn’t the highest. I enjoyed exploring superb online casinos to seek out and play this Asian and animal-themed slot with a twist.
Some Images of Midnight in Tokyo That I Captured
Midnight in Tokyo brings together several themes in one. If I try to describe the ninja and geisha cats to you, I’m not sure I could do them justice. Instead, I’ve relied on screenshots to show you just how beautiful Tokyo looks from the water. Plus, you can see the quirky cat characters for yourself.
My first image shows you the moon over the reels set into the frame of the temple, with Japanese-style symbols filling the 5x3 grid. I like how the purples, pinks, yellows, and blues of the night dominate the backdrop. I also took screenshots of the action. You’ll see the Wild Splitters chopping up symbols and the bonus round respins.
Is Playing Midnight in Tokyo a Good Idea?
Yes, it’s a great idea! If you like Asian themes, animal slots, quirky characters or beautiful graphics, you’ll find something for you. Midnight in Tokyo has 243 win ways, and that can expand when the symbols are split. I like having so many win ways, as with prize symbols taking up some space on the reels, you need as many options as possible.
Besides the kooky theme, the flawless design makes the music, symbols, backdrop, and even the spin button fit with the theme. The Wild Splitters keep the action moving in the base game. Plus, the Hold the Jackpot bonus round is familiar to me from other Wazdan slots, and it’s still plenty of fun. The accumulated prizes that I collected were almost as appealing as the jackpot wins.
The bonus round took some time to trigger. I don’t like that the prize symbols in the base game take away space that could have formed a regular win, especially since you only need the three bonus symbols to start. Payouts start on the low side with 0.10x your bet.
Things We Like

How I Placed My First Wager on Midnight in Tokyo
My online casino slot adventure began before I pressed the spin button. If you’re ready to launch Midnight in Tokyo, you can follow my directions to get you to the city at the appointed hour.
-
I checked the best online casinos to see if they featured this slot and find out what else they had to offer in terms of bonuses, payment options, customer support and mobile play.
-
I picked the site that suited me best and registered for an account. The casino needed my name, email address, phone number, date of birth, and other details to create my account.Â
-
Once I had verified my email, I took another look at the promotions page. I didn’t find a no deposit bonus available, so I checked the welcome offers to see what the minimum deposit was. I read the other important terms and conditions to check the bet limits, wagering requirements and game exclusions.
-
Fortunately, Midnight in Tokyo wasn’t on the list, so I proceeded with my deposit and claimed my bonus. It arrived in seconds, so I was almost ready to play.
-
Before I spun the reels, I got familiar with the game and its controls. That involved looking at the paytable, the rules, and the settings. Next, I adjusted my bet using the plus and minus buttons, and pressed to spin.

My Initial Impressions of This Slot
One of the first things that struck me was the soothing Japanese music playing in the background. If the design and theme matter to you as much as the features, you’ll be glad to hear that this slot focuses on all three aspects.Â
I wasn’t sure what to expect from Midnight in Tokyo. It was only when I launched and played the game that I got an appreciation for the fun blend of themes. The graphics are superb, but I never quite got to grips with why these cats in Japanese clothing were prowling the city streets.
Skyscrapers and Temples at Night
The graphics and animations transported me to Tokyo. I love the detailed backdrop that shows the city skyline at night. The attention to detail means you can see lights from windows, the stars in the sky, the Tokyo Skytree, and traditional architecture.
The torii gate, which is usually seen at the entrance to a shrine, forms the setup for the reels. However, it was the blue, purple and black hues that I liked best, as they successfully captured how midnight should look.
The Cats Will Play
Cats come out to play at night, and every city has them. Only in Tokyo, it seems, these cats are geishas, ninjas, and martial arts experts. There’s not much more to the narrative, so I didn’t try any harder to make sense of it.Â
Instead, I enjoyed the fun ways the cat characters interacted with the gameplay. Whenever I saw one of their cute faces appear, I knew something good would happen.
Enjoying Midnight in Tokyo’s Bonus Features
I came across my first bonus features while playing the base game. My first encounter involved two of my feline friends. I call them Ninja Cat and Dojo Cat. They act as Wilds, but they don’t just substitute for paying symbols to help you get a win. They split horizontally and vertically.
Ninja Cat will split the adjacent symbols to its right and left. Dojo Cat uses its nunchucks to do the same but to the adjacent symbols above and below. The symbols usually split in two, but if the cat can only reach one spot on the reels, then they split into three symbols.
The geisha cat with the fan appears in front of the full moon. She’s the bonus symbol, and I had to wait for three to land on the reels at once to trigger the Hold the Jackpot round. I noticed that they only land on reels one, three and five. I saw other full moons on the reels. These are prize symbols with values at their centre.
You only collect the prize symbol values at the end of the bonus round. It starts with three respins. Any bonus and prize symbols stay where they are, and the other icons disappear. When I spun the reels, any new full moons locked in place, and then my respins reset. The prize symbols are worth 1x-10x and 15x and 20x your bet.
Not only did I land some prizes, but I also got another bonus symbol. At the end of the round, I collected them all. I had four bonus symbols, which were worth 10x my wager. Three geishas get you 5x. If you have five bonus symbols, you win the Major jackpot of 150x your wager, and six lead to 1,000x your wager, which is the Grand jackpot.Â
What Is Midnight in Tokyo’s RTP?
This game has an RTP of 96.15%. It’s average, which means I’m not put off by it. At the same time, though, I won’t be adding this title to my list of high RTP slots.
The max win for Midnight in Tokyo isn’t the largest, but 3,000x your wager is still pretty decent.
As for the volatility, it’s a Wazdan slot, which means it has one of my favourite features. I adjusted the volatility using the chilli button. I set it to medium, which is my preferred way of playing. However, fans of high volatility slots can set it to the max. If you want to see if you get smaller but more frequent wins, then I advise you to pick the low volatility setting.
What Made Midnight in Tokyo Stand Out to Me?
A slot that can blend a nighttime stroll in a city, cats in traditional dress, and a distinctly Japanese theme was bound to catch my attention. If that sounds a little unusual to you, it is. However, I found that it really works. The theme certainly added to the charm of the slot, which drew me in.
The design, including the music and graphics, is top-notch. I liked being able to set the volatility according to my preference. The Wild splitters are a lot of fun, and the bonus round is the cat’s meow. I’d like to see higher payouts, but that’s certainly not a deal breaker.
