Here’s what I think of Hades
The ancient Greeks knew how to have a good time. Take a tip from them, and play this slot. There are plenty of titles set on Olympus, so I liked the change of setting in this game, which took me to the underworld. Even if that means swapping fluffy clouds for a dark fire pit!
The theme is well-executed, and that mostly comes down to the superb animations. They liven up the reels, emphasise wins, and bring the main character, Hades, to the fore. The licks of fiery blue flames provide a much-needed contrast to the dark background, which gave the slot a lasting visual appeal in my eyes.
I love mythology slots, but only when the features tie in with the theme. Hades absolutely nails that aspect. The hound of hell gives out Free Spins, and the god of the underworld fights the monsters on the reels to give out Wilds. I was fully immersed in the gameplay from the moment I spun the reels.
Images of the underworld
I just had to get some screenshots of how dark and moody this title is. If you’re looking for a break from bright and vibrant slots, this colour scheme will suit you. I’ve captured images from my gameplay to best sum up how the underworld looks but also give you a glimpse of the features at work.
You’ll see the dark cavern, which is the game’s setting, and get an idea of the monsters on the reels. I’ve also grabbed screenshots showing the giant symbols in action and the Wilds after they appear. When my Free Spins round launched,I travelled deeper into the fiery pit, so I’ve given you a sneak peek at that, too.
Is playing Hades worthwhile?
Yes, it’s definitely worth your while, especially if you want dark magic and danger. I liked the mix of action in the base game and the bonus round, although I was waiting for the Free Spins, as that’s where I got my biggest wins. However, the gameplay is enjoyable on its own.
The designers didn’t hold back in making this a shadowy and sometimes scary slot. I like the detailed depiction of the snarling monsters. I recognised a few from Greek mythology, which enhanced the overall narrative. When they formed part of a win, the monster animations added an extra layer of terror.
The design and the action combine to make a really strong theme. The underworld isn’t a place I’d want to hang out in for long, but I was keen to explore a little more, thanks to how engaging this slot is.
One area where I was a bit more sceptical was the payouts. Both the low-paying and high-paying symbols start out pretty low, awarding 0.20x to 0.60x my bet for three matching symbols on a payline. The bottom line is that you need at least five of most of the symbols to call it a win, although the 50 paylines and features helped that to happen fairly frequently.

How to wager on Hades
Fortunately, there’s more than one way to visit the underworld. If you take my advice, seeing it in a slot is the best option. I’ve outlined exactly how I got there so you can secure safe passage and return similarly.
I needed to select the right casino. Security was my top priority, but I also looked at the speed of transactions and made sure it was a user-friendly site.
To create my account, I filled out the signup form, adding my name, email address, date of birth, and other personal details. I clicked the verification link in my email to launch my profile.
Before heading to the cashier, I stopped at the promotions page. I double-checked the welcome offer that was available to me. That involved reading the terms to understand the minimum deposit, wagering requirements, expiry period, game exclusions, and any bet caps in place.
With a firm understanding of the terms, I visited the cashier, chose the deposit option, and added some funds. I used PayPal to deposit, as it’s fast, easy, and secure.
My chosen casino had a vast game library. To save myself time, I used the provider filter to narrow the selection and then enter the underworld by loading this game.
It took a few seconds for the slot to launch. I hovered over the different buttons to understand the controls and then checked the paytable. I also read the game rules. My final stop was adjusting my bet before spinning the reels.
My first thoughts when playing this slot
I admit I’m usually more drawn to light and bright slots. If you’re not afraid of the dark, then your bravery will pay off. I quickly got used to the deeper shades and realised that thanks to some bursts of light, the colour palette wasn’t as gloomy as I first thought.Â
Descending Into darkness
The opening video sets the tone for the fiery setting and the narrative that draws on Greek mythology. The skulls, snakes and sparkling embers combined to give me the impression that I really had travelled to the fiery pit of hell. The carved playing card suit symbols added to the feeling of exploring cavernous depths.
The music is subtle and ominous, which amped up the tension as I spun the reels. It has heavy rock and hints of metal, making it more enjoyable to listen to than some of the repetitive and tinkling tracks I’ve heard. This attention to detail is what drew me in and made me want to play more.
Release the hounds
The attention to detail also extends to the storyline. The character of Hades, waiting beside the reels with a flickering blue flame in his hand, made the Greek mythology connection obvious. The monsters, including the three-headed dog Cerberus, completed the picture.
While I was spinning the reels, the voice of Hades would occasionally jump in. Usually, he was making quips about hell, which added a quirky charm to the game. He also commented on the gameplay and fought the monsters, which made me feel like I had a Greek god on my side while I was playing.
What about the bonus features?
The good news is that the underworld is packed full of interesting features. If you’ve looked at my screenshots, you’ll already know this is an unusual slot. Not all the symbols are the same size, which added an extra element of surprise as I waited for the reels to spin and settle.
The strange formation on the reels comes from the software provider’s trademarked feature known as Gigablox. On every spin, there was a block. Some were just double the size of regular symbols, but they could go up to a block of 6x6, filling the reels.Â
Each giant block counts as if it were individual rows of the same symbol. For example, I saw a few 4x4 blocks which contained 20 of the same symbol. However, they sometimes land with other blocks, meaning you only get part of it, such as 12 of the symbols on the reel.
While that kept the action entertaining, one of my favourite parts of the base game is the Hades Wild Hunt. It happens at random when there are some monsters on the reels. Hades jumps in to fight them. He wins some and loses others. The fights he wins turn the monsters golden as they become Wilds. They then substitute for all paying symbols but not the Scatter.
The three-headed dog of the underworld Cerberus is the Scatter. I often saw it fall in a block of 2x2, which helped build up the number required for the bonus round. When I saw at least five on the reels, the Free Spins launched. The number of Scatters that landed was the number of spins I got.
I liked that when more Scatters landed, I got more Free Spins, one for each additional Cerberus symbol. In this round, the Hades Wild Hunt occurs on every spin. During his fights, the symbols that turn into Wilds add a point to the multiplier meter. When it was full, the multiplier increased, and I got two more spins.Â
The meter resets after each increase, so you need several Wilds to reach the top. However, getting additional spins helped. Plus, the combination of the Gigablox, Wilds, and the multiplier gave my wins a serious boost.
Number of Wilds Required | Multiplier |
10 | 2x |
15 | 3x |
20 | 5x |
25 | 10x |
What RTP does Hades have?
The gameplay is brilliant, but it’s not enough to distract me. If I’m going to venture into hell, I want to be prepared. I thoroughly checked the game documentation to understand exactly what I was in for. I discovered that this slot is around average for casino games, with an RTP of 96%.
From spinning the reels and the game information, it’s clear that this is a high volatility slot. Sometimes, I had to wait for wins, and their size could range from fairly small to quite big. All of the action takes place on a 6x6 grid with 50 paylines.
Why was I drawn to Hades?
Sometimes, a shadowy slot is just what you need. If you add in the immersive Greek mythology theme and the win potential, it’s clear that Hades isn’t such a bad place after all. I liked the main character, the music, the voiceover, and the detailed animations.
I appreciated the Gigablox mechanic, which helped to group symbols together for a win. The best bits of the gameplay are the Hades Wild Hunt and Free Spins features. When they combined, I was in for a real treat, which rewarded my patience in this high volatility slot.
