While the Wild helped some wins to form in the base game, for me, she was at her best in the bonus round. When I saw three pyramid Scatters land, the Free Spins feature launched. I also got a payout of 2x my bet, which goes up to 20x and 50x if four of five of these pyramids land.

My bonus round began with 12 Free Spins. Now, the queen Wild came into her own, as she upgraded the symbols when she landed on the reels. Each time one landed, I moved up a level. At level two, all the fan-style symbols became ankhs. At level three, the ankhs were replaced with scarabs, and so on.

The upgraded symbols feature helped me get some bigger wins. By level four, the reels were packed with bird symbols, making it more likely for matches to land. That wasn’t the only great thing about the Wild, as each time one landed, I got more spins. There’s also a way to retrigger the whole feature if three or more Scatters hit the reels during the round.

I was keen to see if this game could act as an update to the classic Book of Ra. In terms of graphics, it’s much more modern, but the features, while equally good, don’t take things a step further. My conclusion is that you’ll have just as much fun playing either of these slots.
