Theme and graphics

Once I loaded Dogmasons by Popiplay up, I found myself instantly impressed with it. The developer has done a stunning job with its design, really bringing the base theme to life on your screen. I love the smooth operating nature of the reels as well, while the general layout makes it a simple slot to play. You can almost imagine yourself setting foot into the Dogmasons hall and seeing the elite members strolling by!

Popiplay has created something wonderfully entertaining with this slot game. Of course, the main focus is on the symbols appearing on the six reels. Yet even before you get to those, the background of Dogmasons Megawoof sets the scene perfectly. As the flames on the wall torches flicker, they reveal the stunning, decorative room. An ornate chair can also be seen on the right of the reels, which is where the very best members of the group sit.

While the décor of the room may look quite serious, the symbols on the reels add the fun back to the slot. The members of the Dogmasons each bring their own personality to the game, while the soundtrack playing as you spin the reels ensures the quirky nature of the game stays alive.

Gameplay and mechanics

Placing a bet on your Dogmasons spins is simple, as is the case with all Popiplay slot releases. The layout is the same as in other releases from the brand, so if you have played some of them before, it’ll look familiar. At the bottom of the reels, you will see + and – buttons to change your bet. The betting range incorporated into Dogmasons Megawoof runs between €0.10 and €50 per spin.

Click on the stake you want to place and then return to the main game screen. In the bottom-right corner is a large, circular button, which you press to spin the six reels. Once a result is produced, you can see if you’re a winner. Matching symbols need to show up on adjacent reels to provide a payout, with three or more required to win. Combinations should start from the leftmost reel and proceed to the right.

Dogmasons allows you to speed up your spins with the lightning bolt button, found to the right of the spin button. On the other side of it is the autoplay mechanic. Through this, you can place up to an unlimited number of consecutive spins at the same bet level in the game.

Bonus games and features

The hairless cat symbol is the one that represents this game’s wild addition. If it shows up, it will substitute for all other basic symbols on the reels except for scatters. Wilds can only appear on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5. In free spins, wilds have multipliers of up to 5x.

The slot’s scatter symbol is that of a gold bone, which can appear on any reel. Spinning four, five or six scatters into view anywhere will trigger free spins for you. You can win up to 20 of these, depending on how many scatters are present when free spins hit.

You can also experience the Dog Respin round, which activates when 6 or more ball symbols land on the reels. You get three respins at this point and the ball symbols lock in place. Whenever a new ball symbol lands, it will lock in place and reset the respins counter to three. Each ball has a value written on it, too. 

It is during this round that scratch symbols can land in small, medium or large units. These enhance your win chances in the round. Respins end when no further balls land or when the reels are filled with balls.

RTP, volatility and max win

The Dogmasons slot machine features an RTP rate of 96.80% to benefit from. It is this percentage which highlights how much you can expect to win back from a slot game. The higher it is, the better a slot is for playing. The average for video slots is 96%, so Dogmasons stands out for this reason.

The slot is also a high volatility release, though, so you’ll need to make sure you set your bets at a good level. Wagers should cater to the chance of experiencing several consecutive non-winning spins. One other technical detail to remember about playing the slot is that it has a maximum payout potential of 5,000x your bet. I would have hoped for something larger from a slot such as this, although 5,000x is the general average.

As can be expected of most Popiplay slots, Dogmasons brings a wonderfully immersive experience. The background and the reels work together perfectly, as do the animations. I liked how the machine fits my iPhone screen and where the controls were placed. 

Dogmasons follows most other slots from the developer in this format and there are no complaints from me. You can also give it a spin on an Android smartphone and tablet.

Why do Dogmasons stand out?

While it’s true that dog-themed slots have been released before, Dogmasons from Popiplay takes it on a slightly different path. I love how it all plays out, and the visuals within the game are something else. It’s great that the slot has both free spins and respins round to enjoy, with both presenting their own enjoyment factors. I do think Dogmasons would be better if it had a higher win potential and a lower volatility level. Yet it remains a fantastic game release from the brand.
