Dreamy Design

One of my favourite things about the design of this slot is the skies. There are two colour schemes involved for different times of the day, which come out in the base game and the free spins. Both are exquisite and do a fantastic job of capturing the feeling of the countryside.

I also appreciated the detail in the foreground, with grasses and wildflowers. If I’m being really picky, I would have liked to see some animations, such as the grass blowing in the breeze, to make it more immersive.

An Animal Adventure

The eagle, wolf, and other animal symbols fit well with the theme of being out in the wilds of America. The graphics delivered enough detail and intensity to capture the spirit of the slot. However, I felt that was a little let down by the low-value symbols, which are generic playing card suits.

Breaking Down Bison Wilds DoubleMax’s Bonus Round

Before I get to the main bonus round, I want to talk about the features in the base game. If you’re patient enough to play super high volatility slots like this one, then it’s good to know there are features to look forward to. 

The multiplier is active in the base game and the Free Spins bonus round. Whenever a win lands, it triggers the cascade feature, where new symbols drop into place. It also causes the multiplier to move up one place. It starts at 1x and then doubles. It resets back to one after a losing cascade.

After each cascade, one or more Wilds will appear on the reels. The bison is the Wild, and it can come with extra functions. The red Super Wild stacks to fill all the available gaps on a reel during the cascade. 

The purple Boost Wild increases the multiplier by up to five positions in the base game or one position during Free Spins. The green Each Way Wild triggers wins to pay from left to right and right to left when it’s involved in a win.

The gold coin is the bonus symbol, and you need at least three to trigger the Free Spins round. With three gold coins, you get seven Free Spins, four lead to 10, and five get you 13. My favourite thing about the round is that the multiplier doesn’t reset, so I managed to reach a multiplier of 256x. 

When I played, only three landed, and the Free Spins Gamble game launched. You spin the wheel, and if it lands in green, you get three more free spins, which you can collect or play again until you have 13 spins in total. If it lands in red, you get nothing. I recommend finding freeplay versions of slots to test gamble features, as they aren’t for everyone.

The version I played had 94% RTP, which is below my usual standard, which I set at the industry average of 96%. There are some versions with an even lower RTP of 90.5%, which is something to be wary of, so check the help menu for the full details before playing. 

Why Did Bison Wilds DoubleMax Catch My Eye?

Animal slots, when done well, have a mesmerising way of portraying nature and the magnificent creatures that share our planet. If the graphics are on point, then I’m always curious to see more. Bison Wilds DoubleMax does deliver in that respect, but it was actually the max win and multiplier feature that first attracted me.

While it’s not the largest top win, 19,996x your wager is very appealing. I have a soft spot for slots with cascade functions, and when that’s combined with a multiplier that doubles, then it’s definitely something I want to see more of. The fact that the multiplier doesn’t reset in the Free Spins round made it even more attractive.

That being said, the technical side of the game didn’t suit my preferences. The highest RTP of 94% is still low, meaning this game won’t make it onto my favourites list. Occasionally, I’ll make exceptions for high-volatility titles, but super high slots like this one are not for me.
