The Area 69 is a wacky alien tale with thrills and decent bonuses. Its use of alien-themed symbols conveys the theme brilliantly plus the music is just right. Area 69 might be a bit high stake for some players because of its volatility but I enjoyed the frequent presence of bonuses and scatter symbols.

The auto-spin feature is great for low bets, allowing you to play consistently without clicking your screen on each spin. Overall, Area 69 transports you to a new adventure where a wacky cigar-smoking alien is the centre of the show.

Should You Play Area 69?

Yes, you should because it is worth every cent. Area 69 grabbed my attention with its simple 2D graphics but I stayed because of the bonuses and decent payout. The bonus buying feature also took me by surprise, as few slot games allow this. Using this feature I was able to get some decent wins.

Area 69 is a casual game that packs a punch as it does not take itself seriously. It is the perfect game to relax and a good companion during long commutes (I’m speaking from experience!). Without wasting much time, here are the pros and cons I observed while playing the game.

Things We Like

The gaming visuals and sounds are decent with attention to detail.

It is easy to play as it does not have complicated mechanics.

Free spins bonuses with up to 10 free spins available at once.

Multipliers are available.

Things to Consider

Area 69 does not have a Gamble feature.

How to Place Your First Bet on Area 69?

Placing bets on Area 69 is simple. I found the controls easy to use and visible. Here are the steps to follow when placing your first bet on Area 69.

  • When you launch the game, the reels are in the centre of your screen flanked by the relevant controls. At the base of the slot reels, you will find the “total bet” and “Balance” toggles.

  • The “total bet” shows the amount you are betting per round. When you click on the betting amount, it shows the minimum and maximum betting amount on a table that shows all the amounts in between. The betting range is between 0.25 to 50.00.

  • You can also click on the plus and minus buttons that are on either side of the “Total bet” toggle to quickly adjust your betting amount. Once your preferred amount has been set, click on the spin button.

  • As you set your betting amount, keep your eye on the “Balance” section as each bet you make per spin will be deducted. All wins are also added to the balance section after each round.

Autoplay

The autoplay function is another feature that I enjoy on this slot. It allowed me to set my bet once and make consecutive spins without manually initiating each spin. Here is how I used it and what you should know about autoplay.

  • The autoplay function is represented by an “A” that is located next to the spin button. When you click on this button, it allows you to customise the feature through its basic and advanced settings.

  • In the advanced settings, you can decide how many times you want the autoplay function to work before it stops. I prefer my autoplay to run for 10 rounds before stopping. You can also choose if you want the feature to pause after every win.

Once the autoplay is up and running, you can maximize your bet sizes and speed up the game. The autoplay feature allowed me to play Area 69 while I was occupied with other tasks. The game played in the background until it had finished its spin cycles based on my instructions.

My First Moments Playing This Slot Machine

My first interaction with Area 69 was decent because the concept was well executed. I liked how the buttons were decently sized and labelled using the right words and icons. One thing I did not like was how the paytables and information section were hidden behind a hamburger menu.

The information button is usually visible in most modern slots. The wacky tune complements the slot's theme and makes the game more fun and exciting. For a beginner, Area 69 is easy to master and the fun begins quickly.

Area 69 Uses a Modern Design Approach

I did not expect much when I opened Area 69 the first time but the game grew on me. The cartoonish style of its symbols and visuals drew me in but the music kept me playing. It has a space funk vibe that goes with the over-the-top rhetoric in the game. My favourite symbol is the green alien with a pair of antennae dressed in a beach shirt. This and other symbols came together to portray a convincing alien game.

In the musical department, Popiplay (the designer of the slot) has created a catchy tune. I love the use of snappy drum tunes with flute-like overtones to convey cheerfulness. Area 69 gets its music design right as it is not overly loud and not too soft that it gets lost in the VFX sounds. It is just enough to immerse you but not bother you.

Plot and Storyline

Area 69 has a simple plot with a simple premise: “What will a cheerful alien do if it crashes on Earth and hides?” The slot takes this possibility and builds on it to create the party alien we see in the game. I noticed how the game developer tried to buttress the crashing part of the storyline by scattering clues around the visuals of the game.

The background to the slot reels shows crashed UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects) in a deserted scene. The reels are designed to look like net fences commonly used in restricted areas and military compounds. If you observe closely, you notice funny “Keep Off” signs hanging from the reels. Area 69 takes alien-themed slots to a new level by creating a balance between fun and payouts.

Let's Talk About the Bonus Games You'll Find

I enjoy playing Area 69 because of the bonuses it has available. As a high volatility slot, it is not surprising that these bonuses appear fairly frequently. I will examine the 5 bonuses available for this slot in detail below.

area 69 slot paytable

Wild Spin

The wild spin feature is available for purchase on the menu. It is one of the first bonuses I checked out when I played the game. It adds a random wild symbol to each spin with a multiplier ranging between 1x-200x.

This feature increases the chances of you receiving the hangover bonus. You can deactivate this feature when you are done from the menu. Activating the wild spin bonus increases the bet amount by 3x and stops other bonuses. I advise you to use this strategically and not often.

Hangover

The Hangover bonus is triggered when 3 Glitter Balls are on the same spin. When this occurs, you will be awarded 3 free spins and the Glitter Balls become sticky. If any Glitter Balls land on the reels while the Hangover bonus is active, the spins are reset back to 3.

This new Glitter Ball also becomes sticky and the same process is repeated as new Glitter Balls appear. The multipliers are added together and applied to the payout. Payouts on this bonus happen after each spin. I enjoyed this bonus because it had a cascading effect which led to large bonuses.

Alien Abduction

The alien abduction bonus is my favourite. It occurred the most when I played and I used it to win up to 144x my wager. This feature is triggered by landing three scatter symbols which are represented by a UFO. You receive 10 free spins while the bonus is active. During free spins, all available reels can become an abduction reel. There are three animals you can catch and they determine how high your multipliers may go.

  • The rooster: 2x, 3x, or 4x.

  • The Pig: 5x, 10x, 15x, or 20x

  • The Cow: 25x, 50x, 75x, 100x, 150x, 200x.

These multipliers can combine to give you massive rewards while the bonus is active. I caught the cow and rooster but not the pig. With the right bet, you could leave the Alien abduction bonus game smiling.

Buy Bonus

Area 69 allows players to buy bonuses. I like this feature because it gives players more control over the bonus appearance on the reels. It may be a new mechanic to some players so I advise that you learn how it works in the demo game. After making a bonus purchase, you are allowed to increase your bet before the next spin.

Glitter Balls

Area 69 uses glitter balls as its wild multipliers. The use of different colours to separate their values was a great idea. While playing I noticed two balls but discovered they were three after checking the paytable. Here are the three glitter balls and their possible multiplier bonuses:

  • Blue Glitter Balls: 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x.

  • Purple Glitter Balls: 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x.

  • Yellow Glitter Balls: 25x, 50x, 75x, 100x, 150x, 200x.

Glitter balls can substitute for any symbol to make a win. When a win occurs, the multiplier value increases the payout. If you are lucky to have more than one Glitter Ball in your winning combination, the multipliers are added before being used on the winning amount.

Some Technical Considerations About Area 69

Area 69 is a high volatility slot so if you feel that is too risky, this may not be the right slot for you. I like the high volatility of the slot because I enjoy high-stakes games.

The Return to Player (RTP) is also high at 97%. This means that for every dollar you spend on the game, you will receive 97 cents in payouts. From my playtime, the payout frequency matched the RTP that was provided by the slot developer. This qualifies it s one of high paying slots.

The max win of 10,000x is huge compared to other games in its category. It is also important to note that the slot does not have a progressive jackpot or other Megaways feature. Area 69 has 5 reels with 16 paylines.

The number of paylines may seem a bit low for a high volatility slot but it makes up for this with its bonuses and multipliers. I have compared the paytable and documentation to the live gameplay and found the features to be present as stated. You should also go through the documentation of Area 69 on Popiplay for more details.

Why Do I Think Area 69 Stands Out?

Area 69 is a simple game that does the hard things well. Its bonus features are well developed and it has a decent payout system. Although it compensates for its few paylines with bonuses, I was slightly let down by the few chances there are to win during basic play.

The game forces you to rely on bonuses to get a leg up but compensates by allowing you to purchase your preference. Its graphics and sound do enough to immerse players in the story but also make it great for playing in the background. Area 69 is a game that is fit for both casual and hardcore slot fans. I enjoyed my time playing this slot and I think you would too.
