There is nothing quite like playing an online slot game for the first time. There’s something magical about it, even if you aren’t really interested in its base theme or design. While I appreciate the design of Telly Reels – I love the idea of the television soaring through space – I’m never really enthused by fruit-themed slots these days. So many of them exist at casinos that the genre is very much oversaturated.

However, when I started playing this Wazdan release, I found myself being very engaged in what was happening on-screen. The fruit symbols stand out perfectly on the television reels, while the special features of the game add to its general appeal, too.

Soar through the space age on TV

It’s not every day you get to see a television set drifting through space, but in this slot, you can. Wazdan has crafted the reels of the game to appear on a television screen. There are even buttons and knobs on the right-hand side of the screen, which adds to the design of it being a vintage TV. It’s a fantastic design, and in the background, you can see the outer reaches of space. Twinkling stars shine through in various locations, bringing that extra edge to Telly Reels. 

Of course, the fact that all the navigation and function buttons round along the bottom of the slot screen helps. It makes playing Telly Reels a simple affair. Just to make the game even more entertaining, the developer has added a soundtrack that is reminiscent of something you would hear on a game show. I was half expecting to hear the words, “Come on down…” chime out now and then!

Gameplay and mechanics

You’ll see the various bet possibilities in Telly Reels as soon as you load the online casino slot up. Running along the bottom of the game screen are several options for this, with the betting range being quite extensive. The values start from the minimum of €0.20 per spin and increase up to the maximum of €10,000 per spin, which is massive.

It is advisable to choose a bet level that is suitable for your bankroll and style of gaming. Then, turn to the large blue spin button in the bottom-right corner of the screen. Click on this to spin the five reels and produce a result. There are 20 paylines included in the game, and if you match three or more symbols on a payline from the leftmost reel to the right, you win a payout.

If you want to see the Telly Reels paytable, click on the ‘i’ button. If, on the other hand, you want to speed up the reel spins, you can click on the button to the right of the spin button with the tortoise on it. The button with the chillis on it will determine your spin volatility, while the button with the triangle on it is the autoplay function of the slot.

Bonus games and features

As you play Telly Reels, you may spin the wheel scatter symbol into view. If three of these show up, you activate 10 free spins. When this does activate, a mini bonus game plays out first to determine which additional feature will be active throughout. Telly Bonus Spins is another feature included in the slot, which occurs when you fill the bonus matrix table. It is the star symbol that activates the field in the bonus matrix table, corresponding to its position on the reels.

When all five sliders are in one position, you receive a random payout of up to 10x your stake.

Meanwhile, a gamble round is present in the slot, which activates whenever a win hits. If you choose to play the round, you need to choose between two channels. Select the one airing a programme and your win is multiplied.

Telly Reels on mobile

Playing Telly Reels on my Android device was a typical Wazdan experience. I am not a fan of how a good deal of the display is left unused, with only the simple background to appeal to you visually. The graphics on the reels were of good quality, however, this was spoilt by the fact the rest of the controls and features are crammed together and aren’t very visible to boot.

I would definitely recommend sticking to the far better desktop version than picking this slot up on an Android or iOS device. 

RTP, volatility and max win

It’s great that you’re able to adjust the volatility level of Telly Reels, as is the case in most Wazdan releases. This allows you to choose from low, medium or high volatility based on your own preferences. Even so, you can still only win a maximum payout of 1,400 from playing the game. That’s quite minimal when you compare it with other slot releases.

You should also consider that Telly Reels has an RTP rate of 96.19%. This describes how much you can expect to win back from playing it, though the amount is worked out over time. Why do I think Telly Reels stands out?

I can firmly say that before I played Telly Reels, I had never played a game where a TV was soaring through space. In the highly saturated world of online slots, developers need to get their games recognised by being as original as possible. Wazdan has definitely done this with Telly Reels, I think. Okay, it could do with having a higher maximum win potential if you ask me. Even so, it provides entertainment through and through, thanks to its exciting special features, high-quality graphics and diverse betting range.
