Theme and graphics

Yggdrasil and SpinOn certainly knew what they were doing when creating the Saber slot. The game features a mass of vibrant neon colours, ensuring everything stands out perfectly on the screen. Jolts of electricity and light flash across the background, too. Can you imagine a world that is completely reliant on electricity and nothing else to generate power? Even the biggest and best online gambling sites could become totally virtual – could you walk around with a VR headset on all the time?

That’s the sort of feeling you get when playing Saber, and the developers have done a great job with its creation. To add to the general base theme, SpinOn has also added a soundtrack with a futuristic vibe running through it. Throw in the simple layout and it’s an easy-to-play slot, which makes Saber even more compelling to play when combining all the elements.

Gameplay and features

I was intrigued by this Yggdrasil slot because the overall design of the respins with expanding reels and increasing paylines stood out. The issue for me was that I didn’t experience a win until my 17th spin, and then, after reaching level 2, I won nothing more. 

There were only three times when I experienced this, and each time I didn’t get beyond that level. For me, it proved a little disheartening. The Xtreme Wild Feature did hit a couple of times, though, which proved helpful in forming wins on those occasions. Let’s say I didn’t mind the game overall, but I’m not sure I’d play it again.

When you play the Saber slot, you’ll have some information provided at the beginning, which states you start at level 1. This means that you have five reels and three rows to spin, with three paylines also included. Those paylines run from the leftmost reel to the right on each of the three rows. Once you hit level 2, those same paylines pay from the rightmost reel to the left, meaning you effectively have 6 paylines active.

As you go up through the levels, you can achieve a larger game layout and up to 20 paylines in action. After making your first bet, the five reels then spin and produce a result for you. Match three or more identical symbols on one or more of the paylines in the game, and you win a payout. There is also an autoplay function included, with the button for this being in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

What about the bonus games?

The wild symbol can come into effect as part of the online casino slot’s Xtreme Wilds Feature. It can trigger randomly on any spin, adding five wilds to the reels in an ‘X’ formation. This occurs across reels 2, 3 and 4.

What about the increasing reels and paylines, though? Well, whenever a win forms, a respin is awarded, and the reel set increases in size and/or the paylines increase. You can reach up to level 6 and 20 paylines.

The respins come to an end when either a respin doesn’t produce a win or you reach level 6. It is also on level 6 that multiplier values can come into effect. These can reach up to 25x, applying themselves to your respin wins.

RTP, volatility and max win

The Saber RTP rate is 94%, which sits comfortably below the general average of 96%. RTP highlights the amount you can expect to win back from spinning a slot’s reels and this rate feels very accurate here. In Saber’s case, it’s unfortunate that the higher the percentage is, the better it should be for playing. The slot also presents a low volatility to gamers, however, due to how long it took for wins to hit, it felt much more like a high-volatility game.

As you spin the five reels, you have the chance of winning a maximum payout of 2,050x your bet. That’s not a high maximum payout overall, so just consider that before you place your bets on the game. it should also be considered that the minimum bet possibility is €0.20 per spin and a maximum level of €120 per spin. This range is quite strong, with a minimum bet of €0.20 being decently favourable.

Saber slot on mobile

Playing Saber slot on my Android mobile phone and had a wonderful time. The graphics translated very well and I enjoyed the size and shape of the reels in the machine. The controls were super simple and sat at the bottom of the screen. 

Overall, I preferred playing Saber at a mobile casino to on a desktop. You can also play it on an iOS mobile or tablet.

Why do I think Saber stands out?

Saber is intriguing from a starting point. The design of the game and the way it plays out presents a unique enough experience to appeal to gamers. I’m not convinced that it is a low volatility slot personally, but the inclusive special features offer the chance for a fun time. I’d like the RTP rate to be higher and the maximum win to also go beyond 2,050x. Try it out in demo format first before you turn to the real money version.
