Whenever I browse for a new slot to play, I see a Greek-mythology-themed slot topping the chart. Therefore, when I was going to try Mythos, I knew the competition would be tough, if not close in terms of quality. However, Mythos was mind-blowing, even at first glance. 

First, Mythos' graphics are impressive, to say the least. From the symbols to the background, Popiplay went above and beyond to express the grandeur of Olympus. With Zeus as its main character, Mythos showcases his capabilities through the base gameplay and the bonus features. 

Still, some aspects of the game might not appeal to all players. If you're still considering playing Mythos, here's how my journey to Olympus went.

Mythos boasts impressive graphics. If you’re curious why Mythos' design impressed me at first glance, you can get a glimpse of the graphics’ quality through my screenshots below. 

Mythos offers multiple innovative features, with Zeus and Hercules as its main characters. If you carefully look at my screenshots, you'll notice that the grid isn't plain. Some columns are marked with golden frames that can affect your gameplay later. The top of the reels also showcases thunderbolt medals, which can light up according to the multiplier you have collected. 

Should You Play the Mythos Slot?

I enjoyed playing Mythos, so you should try it, too. The graphics played a big part; if this matters to you then they’ll likely grab your attention and keep it as they're impressive to look at. However, the gameplay contributed considerably as well. 

The Extra Multiplier and Scatter appeared frequently on my reels. If you like slots with features, you know how much thrill Scatters can bring, as they're often the key to the bonus game. With the golden frame added, it's easier to spot if the bonus feature is starting. 

Another good point about Mythos is that the Wilds also carry multipliers. The more you spin, the higher your payout value will be. 

There are, however, several unfortunate aspects that might be a turn-off for some players. For example, I think the betting range will be too small for high rollers. 

Mythos only allows players to bet £0.20 to £50 per spin, although casinos can set a different limit. In any case, if you're a casual player, I think Mythos can still be the perfect slot. 

Another thing that I don't really like about Mythos is its small max win of 2,800x. With the high volatility, I don’t think Mythos is for everyone.

My First Moments Playing This Slot Machine

As you might know from my descriptions above, my first impression of Mythos was beyond good. These are the aspects that blew my mind and I’m sure they will yours too, if you give this slot a spin. 

Impressive Graphics and Animations

Popiplay designed Mythos to make it look like the players float above Olympus. If you've seen my screenshots above, the background shows mountain tops and Olympus above the clouds. 

I love that they're fully animated! The clouds and ships slowly moved as I spun the reels. It was so ethereal to look at, fitting for a slot made to center around Zeus. 

Not to mention, the Warrior symbol will move to flaunt his strength when he lands on the reels. Hercules' attire will also change depending on his multiplier size, so I can watch him put on his layers of armour the more I spin. 

Thematic Features and Mechanisms

Mythos' story revolves around Zeus and Hercules. Hercules will play as the Multiplier Wild, which aids players along their journey. Meanwhile, I was also awed by Zeus' thunderstrike every time the last Scatter was about to land on my fifth reel. 

Mythos managed to take things to the next level as an online slot using a common theme. The mechanisms and features contribute to the storyline, making it easier for me to get immersed in the gameplay.

Let's Talk About the Bonus Games You'll Find

Mythos has multiple features that contributed to the value of my payouts. If you've played several online slots before, you know that most have a Wild symbol that can substitute other symbols except for Scatters. However, Mythos' Wild acts as a multiplier as well.

When you look at how the grid is designed through my screenshots, you'll notice 10 medals with a thunderbolt symbol at the top of the reels. I've also noted that several columns have golden frames. A thunderbolt will light up if the hero symbol, the Wild, lands on the framed columns in the base game. 

When 10 thunderbolts are lit, I'll receive a higher multiplier. On the side, Zeus will count how high my multiplier is. So far, this is my favourite feature. 

Another special symbol is Zeus' hand holding his thunderbolt. This Scatter symbol appears only on reels one, three, and five. When three land simultaneously, they activate the Free Spins game. 

I liked how Mythos gave me a pretty generous 10 Free Spins. In addition, Wilds landing during the Free Spins game turn sticky 

The Sticky Wilds make getting winning combinations easier, so I ended the Free Spins game with a big win. However, it's unfortunate that you can't get more Free Spins while the feature is active. 

It took me a while to learn all Mythos' features, so you'll likely be confused when playing for the first time. If you need to check how the features work, click the menu button at the bottom left of the display and click the question mark or the money bag button to see the paytable and rules. 

Some Technical Considerations About Mythos

For me, knowing a slot's RTP and volatility is crucial before playing. When I checked Mythos' RTP, Popiplay informed me that the game has a 95.48% RTP, below the average percentage. The game is also labelled with high volatility. 

High volatility slots like Mythos rarely give players small wins. Instead, players will have to spin for a while before hitting a win that would likely give big payouts. 

For some players, low volatility slots that give frequent small wins are preferable as they can see their spins paying more often. If you like getting bigger wins and don’t mind waiting for them to appear, you might like how Mythos presents its gameplay. 

Why Do I Think Mythos Stands Out?

Popiplay jumped in with a Greek mythology-themed slot, knowing that many top contenders were in the market. Yet, even if you're a bit bored of this theme, the game immediately catches your attention due to its impressive graphics quality. 

I also like the features that Mythos offers, especially its Extra Multiplier. If you like slots that present complexity and layered gameplay, you'll likely enjoy Mythos. Still, there are several things to consider before playing. 

The max win is too low to my liking. As a high volatility slot, Mythos should be able to offer more than a 2,800x max win. It was also hard for me to maintain the multipliers, as it'll reset if none of them land every 10 spins. I ended up with a 2x multiplier max as they kept on resetting throughout my gameplay.

Your preferences might play a big part in determining if Mythos can be the suitable game for you. If you like slots with beautiful designs and relaxing music, Mythos might keep you around. However, I can't deny that despite the engaging features, they're not highly appealing compared to other popular Greek mythology-themed slots.
